Tales of Berseria Review

Tales of Berseria (PS4)
Release Date: January 24, 2017
Platform – PS4

Tales of Berseria is an interesting game and it’s one of the better Tales games in a while. Tales of Berseria is a prequel and it’s much better than Tales of Zestiria. That being said, this game isn’t the best Tales of game to release. There are still much better ones like Vesperia and Symphonia.  I really disliked the art style and graphics in this game. Some of the characters have fantastic designs like Velvet and Eizen while others have mediocre designs. The graphics could have been so much better in my opinion. I really do think they need to use a new engine because the engine they used to develop this game is clearly outdated. Everything looks bland and plain.

One thing they improved drastically was the battle system. Tales of Zestiria’s battle system was quite poor and the camera was revolting. The battle system in this game is quite excellent and the camera in this game is very good. If you’re looking for a Tales of game with an excellent battle system I recommend you check out this game. Overall the battle system is great and I’ve had a lot of fun playing this game.

The music in this game was mediocre in my opinion. The opening theme was excellent, but all the other tracks are boring and forgettable. Compared to Zestiria the music in this game is disappointing. I was actually expecting this game to have a killer soundtrack.

Mystic arte animations were also very d\isappointing in this game. They were all too quick and uninteresting. One thing I did like about this game were the characters. Velvet is a better character then Sorey, but I still feel there’s something lacking in her character. That being said the other characters were very good and overall this party is much better than Tales of Zestiria’s party.

The dungeons in this game were average at best. Most of the dungeons had dull designs and most of them were very repetitive. Tales of Zestiria also had uninteresting dungeons so they didn’t really improve in this area. I also thought the EX dungeon was mediocre. The story in this game was better than Zestiria but not by a lot. There were a lot of uninteresting moments in this game.

Tales of Berseria isn’t a bad game, in fact, it’s a decent game the thing is they played it too safe with this game. There’s nothing “extremely bad” in this game, in fact, everything in this game is either “decent” or “average” except the battle system. Tales of Zestiria wasn’t well received critically and by the fans so I think that’s why they played it safe with this game. Like I said Tales of Berseria isn’t a bad game but it’s not an excellent game either. January 24th is packed with a lot of games so I think you should wait for this game to go on sale before you buy it. That being said, if you’re looking for a decent Jrpg then, by all means, buy this game. It’s much better then Zestiria and much more enjoyable.

Tales of Berseria is a decent game and it’s much better than Tales of Zestiria. That being said the graphics are still quite poor and the music was mediocre. It’s an improvement but it still could have been better.
